PAYTON WILKINS
2025 + Media and Journalism
Owner of Crocheted by Payton
I hope my art will bring others as joy as I get from designing and creating. Crocheting is my happy place. It takes my mind off anything negative, and I want my stuffed animals to provide that same sense of calmness. I also want to help others stay true to their inner child. You’re never too old to stop loving stuffed animals!

JILLIAN OAKES
2027 + English & History
Owner of Love-Me-Knot Crochet
Love-Me-Knot Crochet is the name under which I market and sell my fiber art. I’ve been crocheting on and off since middle school, but it was through Student-Made UNC that I could finally leap into selling my work! For me, Love-Me-Knot represents all the time and effort I’ve put into honing my craft – long hours, needle pricks, craft store trips and all – to reach a point where I feel confident producing goods to sell.

I aim to inspire creativity in those who feel they’ve lost their imagination. Creativity seems to be less valued as we grow up, and I hate seeing that spark diminish in those with such potential. I create with hope it inspires someone else to do the same.

Taking the leap of faith has been the most challenging thing for me. In creating a new business, there’s no way to know whether or not you’ll succeed, so spending the time and money creating products is always a risk. I hope, though, that it’ll have been a risk well-worth taking.
